Introduction of Some Kind

And I find you spinning round in my brain
like the bubbles in a glass of champagne.

As someone who prefers to be alone, loneliness has caused me too much damage for the past year. Since photography is my sanctuary, I'll try to restore my happiness here in this blog. And here comes the introduction:

Hello everyone, I'm Tanya and I'm a photographer (that is something I would say in Photographers Anonymous). My background is not something even slightly interesting so I'll skip trough the years. When I was in the 6th grade my father bought a digital camera for his birthday - my first Nikon. I became fascinated with taking pictures - the camera was always by my side. Somewhere around that time I was sure that photography would be by my side until I die. I still am. I studied my ass off to get accepted in the National Academy of Theater and Film Art. I got my BA and shortly after my MA in Photography. Now I'm an academic assistant in the Academy...but all this doesn't really matter.

Photography has become such a huge part of my life - it's interlaced with everything I do. As I was organizing my analog and digital archive a while ago, the idea of a blog came up in my mind. I'll try and share a photo or more each day with a short story behind it. You know, a photo without history is just a pretty picture to put on the wall.

So here it is...For the last three years I go as part of my assisting duties in a student base in the Rhodope mountain. It's a beautiful place of peace and quiet, if you don't mind the big trucks that pass by on the main road. Last year I met with my new colleagues there and since we're all photographers, we made a plan to wake up before dawn to shoot some photos. One of them was too tired and we left him to sleep some more. Just two of us got to taking photos that September morning. As we got to the open fields, a thick milk-like fog got us in an awe.

We were cold, our feet were getting wet but we kept on. Landscapes are not my thing, but I couldn't stop shooting. I was not prepared for that scenery and it left me speechless. Two shepherd dogs were chasing each other around me, they wanted to play. And we did play, and I took photos of them. And then another two came by. All of a sudden we were surrounded not only by the fog, but by five or six dogs. There was no fear - these creatures were our new friends. One of my favorite photos of this morning is the landscape that was "ruined" by the running dogs. The camera I used there was Nikon L-35AF - a great compact automatic camera. Later that day I broke it by accident as I was reaching for a hug. But that's a story for another time.
